Fire Out on A&M Campus, No Injuries

Zachry Engineeering Center

College Station and Bryan firefighters spent the better part of Monday afternoon on the A&M campus.

The University’s website says the fire at the Zachry Engineering Center was reported at 3:15, was under control 30 minutes later, and was out at 4:10.

Bart Humphreys with the College Station Fire Department says the building was evacuated and no one inside at the time was injured.

Humphreys says the fire was in a utility shaft between the third floor and the roof.  Electricity was turned off then the fire was extinguished.  Once carbon monoxide levels are below dangerous levels, Humphreys says there will be limited access to the building Monday evening.

The university’s website reports classes are cancelled for Monday night but Zachry is expected to reopen Tuesday morning at 7.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by university officials.
